Overwhelm |

The definition of overwhelm – to bury or drown beneath a huge mass, defeat completely.

Sounds kind of awful doesn’t it. Something you’d consider to be from Satan himself. And in the negative sense of overwhelm it is. I’ve talked to so many people who are Christians, love the Lord, go to church and read their Bibles yet they walk around overwhelmed with their lives. Their schedule is too busy, there is problem after problem and life has no peace. Some people think that’s normal and that every ones life is that way now a days. Well that is true most people are too busy and overwhelmed but that is not what a Christian should consider normal.

Being overwhelmed with your life is not from the Lord and not his will for you. Since we have a free will we have the ability to make choices. Often those are the very things that overwhelm us, not making those choices correctly. In the last few years I’ve found great value in praying about everything. Just because something seems right or good does not mean it’s God. We aren’t supposed to do everything presented. And making a choice just to spare someones feelings isn’t how God leads us. I’m not saying we shouldn’t care about how people feel. But the Holy Spirit doesn’t lead us by how someone else feels he leads us with peace.

Colossians 3:15 – And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. My daughter and I when faced with a decision will often ask each other “What does your peace o meter say about that”. In other words is this decision being made by peace or something else like fear. Fear of what others think, or fear of being left out, or fear of failure and the list goes on, is no way to make decisions. Those kind of decisions will eventually lead to overwhelm. Check your heart when making any decision that will affect your time and therefore your life. Ask the Holy Spirit if this is the way of peace. If it’s not don’t do it even if it offends someone. You cannot control any ones thoughts, feelings or behavior but your own. Putting other peoples feelings above what God is saying makes that person god in your life because they rule you. Nobody is qualified for that role in your life bit the one true God. So listen to the Holy Spirit and obey him and overwhelm will be a thing of the past and peace will reign in your life. Believe me it will be worth it.
